15 Garden Crafts to Add to Your Space This Summer (1)

Summer calls for time spent in nature, basking in the warm weather and sunshine. A fulfilling way to get outside while letting your creativity flow is through garden crafts. From creating colorful planters to making your own fountain, we're showing you how to craft great additions specifically for your garden.

A classic way to spruce up your outdoor area is with terra-cotta pot. The material ages beautifully and it's a great medium to hold all of your favorite plants. Make our Terra-Cotta Bud Vases to place on a table in your garden for a fun and simple DIY, or learn how to age terra-cotta pots you just purchased to make them feel like an existing element in your backyard. We're also showing you how to make our Tower of Herbs for a compact, vertical herb garden. All it involves is five terra-cotta planters, herbs, and soilless potting mix.

For those looking for a bigger project, we have plenty of more complex garden crafts to keep you occupied. Start with a fountain you can make yourself, then look forward to letting the sound of water calm your mind while you step outside to enjoy the fresh air. Tranquil sounds of flowing water also emanate from our Pyramidal Pots Water Fountain, and their smaller size means you can achieve tranquility just about anywhere.

If water isn't your thing, turn your focus on your furniture. Learn how to make a stylish, vintage-inspired Cane-Top Table; it's the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee or evening co*cktail. And don't forget about furnishings for your favorite animals! Why not craft a Modern Birdhouse for your feathered friends? Our A-frame option is made of lightweight wood, and assembly requires just a few simple tools.

Ahead, explore more garden crafts to keep you busy this summer.

Bark-Wrapped Flowerpots

15 Garden Crafts to Add to Your Space This Summer (3)

This rustic flowerpot looks gorgeous outside or in. Collect bark that's been shed from trees and break it into 3-to 4-inch pieces, creating jagged edges. Using floral shears, cut the bark into thin strips for the raised rim of the pot. Then apply hot glue generously to the bark, and press it onto the pot, starting with the area just below the raised rim. Hold it in place for about 10 seconds before continuing to add bark, slightly overlapping the pieces. Glue the smaller strips to the raised rim, including the top edge and just inside the rim.

Wooden Sake Box Planters

Wooden sake boxes topped with plastic wrap can be used as miniature greenhouses for a gift of summer garden cuttings. Drill four drainage holes in the bottom of each box. For scented geraniums, like the ones pictured here, cut actively growing shoots with at least three leaves from healthy plants. Then, fill the sake boxes with vermiculite and water until moistened. Use a chopstick to make a hole in the vermiculite and insert a cutting. Then settle the vermiculite around the cutting, covering at least one leaf node, and re-water. Using heavy-duty plastic wrap, supported by 18-gauge copper wire, it'll retain humidity. Insert one end of a 9-inch-long piece of copper wire into the vermiculite in one corner of the box and then bend the wire diagonally across the top of the box, inserting the other end in the opposite corner. Do the same with a second piece of wire, crossing the first, as shown. Hold the plastic wrap in place with a rubber band before creating a name card for the cutting with care instructions inside, and tuck it into the rubber band.
