My funda is very simple, if it is zeera rice then let that be jeera rice ONLY! Truly speaking, I do not prefer using too many whole spices to make it. Because I love it to be with adelicate flavour of cumin seeds only. Occasionally, I do add 1-2 cardamom also. Beautifully cooked jeera pulao with every grain separate is what we all love, isn't it?

Important Tips to make best Jeera Rice Recipe at home

  1. Good rice preparations becomes the best when made with best quality rice. So, to make aromatic jeera rice, always use good quality long grain aged Basmati rice.
  2. Always soak rice for at least 30 minutes. I do that for good 45 minutes. For Instant Pot version, 15-20 minutes of soaking is more than enough.
  3. The ratio of rice to water I consistently go with is 1:1 ¾ for any rice or pulao preparations. Yes, first soak 1 cup of rice for 45 minutes and then cook it in water with 1 and ¾ up only and NOT 2
  4. I, without fail, add few drops of lemon and cook the rice when I want it too be fluffy and each grains separated. So, do not forget to add few drops of it while making jeera rice. This will keep rice from sticking together
  5. For a mild spicy touch, add one or two slit green chilli along with cumin seeds to the below recipe.
  6. Another important point, do not stir the rice too many times or too vigorously while cooking. This will break the grains and you will not have perfectly cooked basmati rice.
  7. After the jeera rice cooks, allow it to rest for few minutes before opening the lid. After 5-7 minutes fluff it up with fork.
  8. Add cumin seeds ONLY after the ghee is hot enough, but not smoky. If ghee or oil is not hot enough, cumin seeds will not release it flavour fully, leaving the raw cumin taste in the rice. Furthermore, if the ghee or oil is extremely smoky, the cumin seeds will burn, so ensure to follow these tricks.
