Made recipe as is & it was good. This year would like to try it with frozen green beans instead of canned. Do you think it will work with frozen? Is should I maybe thaw first? Or maybe microwave them some before putting in my 9×13 casserole slow cooker?Thank You

I haven’t tried this with frozen green beans but think it might work. I would definitely thaw them first. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

My casserole crockpot instructions specifically state to not put the casserole dish under the broiler. I’ve seen a few of your recipes that do just that. Won’t it damage or possibly crack the dish? Thank you!

      Hi Joan!

If your manufacturer says not to put it in the broiler, then I would recommend listening to what the manufacturer says. Mine does not. I have put mine in my broiler multiple times with no damage. It is usually an optional step. If you have a 6 quart slow cooker that is safe to put in the broiler, you could use it to make those recipes, if you want to use the broiler step.

Came out great! I doubled the recipe for my work function. Used french cut beans, added cheddar cheese, some spices (pepper, onion and garlic powders, cumin, parsley) mixed in some of the onions with the beans, and a little less milk because I like it creamier. Realized at 10am I Forgot to turn the crock pot on so I put it on high and it was boiling by 12 and perfect. Couldnt even tell it wasnt made in an oven.

I prefer the green bean casserole in the oven but I’m making Prime Rib this Thanksgiving and can’t use my oven while it’s cooking. Thank you for this terrific recipe!! By the way, believe it or not, I have two allergy-ridden children. One is allergic to chicken and celery, one is allergic to mushrooms, so I use cream of onion soup in my green bean casserole. Tastes delicious! 🙂

The original oven recipe calls for some of the onions to be mixed into the green beans. I would think that that would help to thicken it up a bit too.
There may also be a difference between using store brands and name brand soups.
I dislike mushroom so I use Cream of Chicken instead.

I’ve made this recipe in the crockpot for years. I double the recipe and I add American processed cheese you know the brand. I save the bean juice In case it gets to thick. It’s even better left over the next day.

How much processed cheese do you add? Do u put any fried onions in while it cooks or wait also to put on top when it is done cooking.

      Hi!

I have not made this recipe with fresh green beans, so I don’t feel comfortable making a recommendation without testing it first. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes! Enjoy!

I also prefer fresh green beans vs. canned. And am considering 1 can mushroom soup and 1 can cream of celery soup insteadof 2 mushroom soups, adding fresh sliced mushrooms. Help?

I just made this recipe and it’s a little too soupy how do I make it a thicker consistency?

      Hi Channing!

I’m so sorry it turned out soupy! I did not have that problem when I made this recipe, so I can only guess at what happened. Did you drain your green beans completely? If you left no liquid in your green beans at all, and it was still soupy, then I would suggest taking the 1/3 cup of milk down to 1/4 cup of milk next time. I haven’t tried it this way, but that would be the only way to reduce down the liquid in this recipe that I could think of. Let me know how it goes!

      Hi Virginia!

I have never tried this recipe with fresh green beans, so I would hate to give a suggestion that I have not tested (or have tested something very similar) in my own kitchen and have something go terribly wrong. Enjoy!

I have not tested this recipe using fresh green beans, so I don’t want to make a suggestion on changes when I haven’t done it myself first. If you give it a try, let me know what you do and how it goes! Enjoy!

I’m glad you posted this. I am taking green bean casserole to our family Thanksgiving meal. I didn’t think the 2 cans of green beans recipe I keep seeing would be enough. Not exactly sure how many people will be there (probably 15). I know there will be turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls and a few deserts along with good ole southern sweet tea.

In your opinion, would you make this with 3 cans of green beans or 4?????
If 4, would I need to adjust the soup amount?????
I know there is a lot of other food but nothing else green. Also, I am using French Cut green beans.

Do you put “Cassie” in the oven at the end to brown the onions?????
I’m thinking that would be so good! I could have it ready except for adding the onions then put them on top and put in my niece’s oven just before serving.
    What temp and how long?????

I have the casserole crock but have never used it. This might be how it gets done! Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

      Hi Kim!

I would just make this dish as is for your feast. With all the other foods there, people will be taking smaller portions of each dish, so I would think you should be good.

I haven’t tried putting it in the oven just after adding the onions, but if I were to, I would put it on broil (high if there is a choice of high or low) and watch it closely for 10-30 seconds. The onions should be browned in that amount of time and ready to go.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

When I do this recipe in a crock pot I brown my onions on a cookie sheet in the oven beforehand. Let cool and store in a ziploc baggie until you’re ready to sprinkle them on the casserole. Just leave the lid off so they don’t get soggy and you’re good to go.
