DIY Beeswax Body Moisturizer Lotion Recipe With Olive Oil (2024)

I love making my own homemade creams and this beeswax body moisturizer lotion recipe is one of the latest additions to my arsenal.

I like it because it leaves the skin really moisturized and with a natural glow.

But, what I like most, is that it leaves the skin silky smooth, like baby skin.

Have I tempted you to make it?

So, let’s begin!

Few Notes Before the Recipe

There are some variations to the recipe that you can add.

You could change the essential oils or the olive oil for any other carrier oil.

#The texture is similar to a body lotion, but when left in the fridge for a few hours the texture thickens.

I have made two jars, one for the body and another one for the face.

I have added cornstarch to make it less oily.

I would recommend using only a tiny amount and rubbing until it is well absorbed.

Beeswax is quite greasy, and it also has a good amount of olive oil.

If you like experimenting, try using a less greasy oil or perhaps reduce the amount of oil used.

Whatever you change in the recipe, remember that is important to maintain the percentage of the quantities used.

Before you make the recipe be aware that beeswax is waterproof and quite difficult to clean.

The first time I used beeswax, it took me a long time to get rid of grease on the utensils and hands.

To prevent the same from happening to you, I have listed some beeswax-cleaning tips after the recipe.

  • 20 gr beeswax (get it here)
  • 5 gr emulsifying wax
  • broad-spectrum preservative

Mix the beeswax and emulsifying wax with the oil and place the mixture in a heat-resistant container.

Place the container in a pot with water and melt the wax at low or medium heat. This is called a water bath or bain-marie.

Blend the flaxseed gel and the distilled water together, and like in the step above, place it in a pot with water over low heat.

It is important to do both at the same time so they reach the same or similar temperature.

Why I have used flaxseed gel?

I like to have flaxseed gel on my fridge and use it as a face mask.

See the recipe here.

Since I love how smooth it leaves the skin, I decided to add it to this body moisturizer lotion recipe.

You don’t have to use it if you don’t have it, or you could use aloe vera gel, rose water, or just water.

Check this recipe if you want to make your own rose water.

Once the wax is melted, remove it from the heat and the water.

Get the hand mixer or blender ready.

Start blending/mixing the oils, and very slowly and while mixing, incorporate the distilled water into the oil.

Keep blending for about 10 minutes.

Add the cornstarch and keep blending.

Place the mixture in the freezer for about 15 minutes to speed up the cooling process.

Blend/mix again. If you are using essential oils, add them now and stir with a spatula.

The last thing is adding the preservative and blending/mixing again.

I have used a preservative because the recipe contains water and because I have made a good amount of lotion, and I want it to last.

The preservative I have used is called Naticide.

It is considered a safe option to preserve homemade cosmetics.

Having said that, I’m not too keen on the scent because I find it overpowering, even when I add essential oils.

If you want to prevent your homemade products from having the same fragrance get an odorless preservative.

Naticide is a vegetal origin ingredient with a wide spectrum of activity, being effective against Gram+, Gram-, yeasts and moulds in a pH range between 4 – 9. Thanks to its vanilla-like scent, the use of additional perfumes can be avoided. Naticide is suitable for safe and preservative-free formulations and it is not classified as a traditional preservative (not listed in the Annex V).

Also, don’t rely on vitamin E alone to protect your homemade beauty recipes because it only works in preserving oils from oxidation, but not for recipes that incorporate water.

If you prefer not to use a preservative, make a smaller amount, and keep it in the fridge.

Not sure how long it will last, but bacteria can multiply fast, even in the fridge.

Personally, I wouldn’t leave it for longer than 3 days.

Place the body lotion in sterilized containers.

How To Remove Beeswax From Kitchen Utensils

Firstly, don’t dispose of beeswax leftovers or wax water by pouring it down the sink drain or toilet.

Place it in a bag and into the trash unless it is recyclable.

And secondly, don’t use your best kitchen utensils or pots when melting beeswax.

Before washing the utensils try to scrape as much wax as you can.

You could try using a metal scouring pad. Dispose safely of it.

The fastest way to clean the utensils is by placing them in boiled soapy water.

Wait until the beeswax has dissolved, and wipe them with a kitchen towel.

If the grease persists, pour dishwasher liquid directly into the utensils and rinse them with hot water.

Alternatively, place the utensils and containers in the microwave or oven until the wax melts.

Wipe them with a cloth.

Make sure the utensils are microwave and oven safe.

Another way that I haven’t tried yet is to place small containers or utensils in the freezer and leave them overnight.

Once frozen, it becomes easier to remove using your fingers.

So there you have it! Use these tips when removing beeswax from kitchen pots and utensils and save your time and your patience.

*Pregnant or nursing women consult your doctor if you are unsure. The same goes for anyone taking medications.
