Planting instructions

Unpack the flower bulbs, tubers and rootstocks immediately upon arrival and plant them in autumn once the soil has cooled. Storing them anyway? Store the flower bulbs and tubers in a cool (12-17 degrees), dry and dark place with good ventilation. Do not store in the refrigerator or in plastic, they must be able to breathe. Ensure a healthy, well-drained soil. In general, the planting distance is 3x the width of the bulb and 3x the height of the bulb. The bulbs and tubers can be planted in the ground manually. It may be useful to use a bulb-planter for this. In the case of mass planting, you can also opt for mechanical planting.

Partner of Keukenhof

Green Garden Flowerbulbs is proud partner of Keukenhof. Every year, we deliver thousands of flower bulbs to the flower park in Lisse. Keukenhof, just like Green Garden Flowerbulbs, is located in the Bulb Region and attracts more than a million visitors from all over the world every year.

FAQs

What are the bulbs in order of flowering? ›

These, in order of bloom, are daffodils, tulips, iris, peonies, del- phinium, perennial phlox, and hardy chrysanthemums. To these you may add others, as dictated by space and per- sonal preference, as well as by time and energy for maintenance.

Is it better to plant bulbs in fall or spring? ›

The reason for planting bulbs in the fall is twofold. Bulbs require a period of chilling to initiate flowers. For most spring-flowering bulbs, 10 to 13 weeks of temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit are needed. Bulbs also need to put down good root growth before they sprout foliage and flowers.

Can I buy bulbs now to plant in the fall? ›

Order early for best selection. We begin shipping bulbs at the end of September and shipping continues through November. Bulbs prefer being planted into cool soil. You can plant them anytime after the first frost and before the ground freezes.

Can you plant spring and fall bulbs together? ›

The best course of action is to plant your fall planted bulbs FIRST, and then plant your spring planted bulbs while your spring bloomers are actively growing. This way you will know exactly where the other bulbs are planted.

How many flower bulbs do I need? ›

Fortunately, it's actually a simple calculation. For example: if you are planting tulips and you have 7 square feet of planting space, multiply that by 5 (# of tulip bulbs per square foot) and you will know that you will need to plant 35 tulip bulbs.

What is the latest month to plant bulbs? ›

Planting these bulbs in fall gives them time to establish roots before they go dormant for the winter. The bulbs can be planted anytime from late September through December, though this varies by location and the type of bulbs you are growing. Read on to learn more about when to plant spring-blooming bulbs.

Should I soak fall bulbs before planting? ›

Soak fall-planted bulbs for 12 hours in warm water before planting. This moisturizing method works with tunicate-type bulbs (neatly enclosed round or teardrop-shaped bulbs) and is not suitable for lily or other bulbs with loose, fleshy scales.

How many bulbs should I plant together? ›

Additionally, if you're looking for a garden that contains clusters of different flowers, a good rule of thumb to achieve the most impactful display is to plant at least 12 bulbs of the same variety grouped together.

What happens if you plant bulbs in spring instead of fall? ›

Without the time to establish strong roots in the cooler temperatures, they are much more likely to have weak blooms or even not bloom at all. Spring planted tulip bulbs need at least 14 weeks of vernalization, a chilling period that induces a bulb to grow and flower.

When should I buy bulbs? ›

Spring bulbs can be bought during the spring planting months of March, April, May and June. During the peak planting season of March, April and May it may take several weeks for your order to ship due to increased order volume during this time.

When should I buy fall bulbs? ›

Fall bulbs can be bought during the fall planting season which generally begins in mid-September. Fall planted bulbs are available for purchasing into early winter depending on availability and seasonal temperatures.

Can I plant bulbs in May? ›

While spring blooming bulbs should be planted in the fall, summer-blooming bulbs should be planted in mid-spring, after the frost's risk has passed. Usually, we're safe to plant summer-blooming bulbs after the second week of May. However, if you haven't planted your summer bulbs yet, it's not too late!

Can I plant multiple bulbs in one hole? ›

Answer: As far as planting bulbs in the same "hole" there should be no major problem in the short run, except that they should be at different depths. The tulip should be deeper than the crocus and the iris.

What happens if you plant bulbs too close together? ›

Planting flower bulbs too close together can cause root systems to strangle each other or cause them to dehydrate or starve due to limited water and nutrition. The general rule of thumb is to cover the top of each bulb with 3" to 4" of soil, taking care to not break off any sprout growth.

Which bulbs bloom first? ›

Snowdrops are usually the very first bulbs to emerge. Cold weather doesn't bother them. Even if the ground is frozen, these hardy bulbs manage to push their way up to greet the sun. You need to pay close attention, because snowdrops will often begin blooming before you think to look for them.

What are the bulbs in series? ›

Consider a very simple circuit consisting of four light bulbs and one 6 V battery. If a wire joins the battery to one bulb, to a second bulb, to a third bulb, then back to the battery, in one continuous loop, the bulbs are said to be in series.

What is series arrangement of bulbs? ›

If two light bulbs are connected to the circuit in series, the resistance of the circuit doubles (Figure 2). The current flow is now half of what it was when only one lamp was in the circuit as before. The voltage across each lamp is now 60 volts due to the reduced current flow.

What is the planting pattern for bulbs? ›

You should avoid planting in a single straight row or in a single circle around a tree or bush. Bulbs look better when they are planted in staggered free-form arrangements. Grouping Bulbs - With spring flowering bulbs such as Tulips or Daffodils, plant at least twelve bulbs of one variety in a grouping.
