I recently discovered how to make soap and it's really fun and simple! Be sure to check out my Kids Soap Tutorial HERE. You can see my sweet daughter actually make soap all by herself! And today I created some really fun and festive handmade oatmeal cinnamon soap! This makes a perfect holiday gift, for men or women. It smells amazing and only takes a few minutes of hands-on time.
The other day I hinted that I was buying a few supplies onlinefor an upcoming project and I was so excited when my supplies arrived the other day! I got to work immediately creating this Oatmeal Cinnamon Soap and love how it turned out.

Here is how to make soap easy and quickly:
- 2 lb Oatmeal Soap Base
- Young Living Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
- Soap Molds(I used plastic soap molds in the past, but silicone molds like I linked to are actually much easier to use.)
- Cooking Spray (Optional, but highly recommended if you have plastic molds. Non needed for silicone molds.)
- Cinnamon Sticks (optional)
- Jute (optional)
- Baker's Twine (optional)
How to make soap step by step:
First, cut your Oatmeal Soap base into smaller pieces and place it in a microwave-safe dish. Microwave the soap on a lower power for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Once the soap base is melted, add your cinnamon bark essential oil and stir well.
Coat your soap molds with a thin layer of cooking spray if you are using plastic molds, and pour the melted oatmeal cinnamon soap into the molds. Allow the soap to set completely. I placed my soap outside in my cool garage to help these set quickly.
The oatmeal cinnamon soap will pop out of the molds very easily if the soap is completely set.
I tied these up with a bit of jute, twine, and a few cinnamon sticks! And they are perfect to give as holiday gifts this year or just because!
***Since the time I wrote this post, I discovered the amazing benefits of Young Living Essential Oils and now exclusively use those essential oils and I never use fragrance oils. I changed this recipe to reflect that.

For 1 lb of soap base, I typically use around 24 drops of essential oil. But it may be slightly more or less depending on how strong you want it, and how strong of a smell the essential oils you're using has 🙂 But I like to start around 24 drops.

I've had some experience using pure peppermint essential oil while making soap using a Shea Butter Melt and Pour base. Peppermint can be an especially overpowering and has a very strong scent. I personally started out using just 10-20 drops per pound of soap base and the bars of soap turned out very pleasing and refreshing. I just purchased cinnamon essential oil, which also has a very strong scent. Because it has a light, brown color I plan on using the Oatmeal melt and pour base since that has an off-white color to begin with. I fear using cinnamon e.o. with a white soap base would ultimately discolor my bars of soap.

Oils can definitely change the color of something that is white. Oatmeal soap is great alternative for cinnamon oil. Hope it turns out great!

For 1 soap base, I typically use 20-30 drops of young living branded essential oil. With minty oils like cinnamon, I would go closer to 20 drops, and with things that are a bit lighter (like citrus or florals), I would use closer to 30 drops! Having said that, not all essential oils are created the same and some will be stronger and more potent than others. I use Young Living oils and so that is how many drops I use for their oils. Other oils may vary and you may need more or less of them.

What is "one soap base"? Is that one 2 lb package of oatmeal soap package? 24 drops in each bar of soap or 24 drops for the entire two pound package of oatmeal base kit?

Hi! Yes, I am referring to using the entire 2lb package of soap base. And I would typically use 20-30 drops of a Young Living brand cinnamon oil in the entire 2lb package of soap. However, if you choose to use another brand of essential oil, you should first of all make sure it says that it is safe for topical use, and you may need more essetial oil then the 20-30 drops. Young Living is incredibly pure and these "minty" and "spicy" oils are very strong so you don't need a lot of them!
