When it snows, it's a team effort to predict the impact of the weather while doing our best to keep the fleet running on-time. Our light rail team, including supervisor Jon H. and Operator Roy M., are seen here tracking the storm and getting ready for the first big snow of the year. Stay safe and ride with us! #inclementweather #team #staysafe

Train enthusiasts, get excited! We invite you to explore our METRO Blue Line Operations & Maintenance Facility this Saturday and Sunday as part of Doors Open Minneapolis. Guided tours will be provided throughout each day. During tours, you’ll get to learn more about how trains are cleaned and maintained by our maintenance team and get a glimpse of our newest piece of equipment – a wheel truing machine we use to reprofile wheels so trains run smoothly. Make your way there on transit – routes 2, 9, and 67 stop near the Franklin Avenue entrance to the facility – or take the Blue Line to Franklin Avenue Station. Staff will be on hand to help direct you to the building entrance. Many of the other participating venues are also accessible by transit – visit the Doors Open Minneapolis website for a map and contact us if you need help planning your weekend travels. https://lnkd.in/g3Kzuyq3

Tomorrow is #BikeToWorkDay! Wherever you are in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, you can supplement your bike ride with transit. Hopping on a bus? No problem. Need to connect to a METRO line bus or train? We got you. We recently caught up with Owen, an Adopt-A-Stop volunteer and avid cyclist, for this quick demo on transporting your bike on transit this Friday, or anytime of year.#BikeWeek2024

Thank you to WTS Minnesota for recognizing us as their Employer of the Year! We’re honored to be recognized by an organization that has done so much to support women across the transportation industry, including many here at Metro Transit. The recognition reflects our ongoing efforts to recruit, retain, and promote women across every area of our organization. Examples include:- Supporting the creation of Advancing Women in Transit, an Employee Resource Group that provides women employees and allies a forum to meet and support one another.- The creation of state-certified maintenance apprenticeship programs that provide new pathways for non-traditional candidates, including women and people of color.- The Metro Transit Police Department’s participation in 30x30, a national initiative to have women officers represent 30% of sworn officers by 2030 (we’re already above the national average, at 21%).- Expanded access to lactation rooms, using standards developed with input from frontline employees – efforts that led to a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace designation from the Minnesota Department of Health.WTS Minnesota also recognized Kristin Thompson, Director of Asset Management, as its member of the year and presented a scholarship to Ruby Daniels, a senior project coordinator earning an electrification engineering certificate at the University of Minnesota. Ready to join a team of women (and men, and non-binary) public servants who are committed to everyone’s success? Join us! https://lnkd.in/gQSUVTb5

"Mother knows best" is an old saying with new meaning this Mother's Day for bus operator and new mom Ebonii Mantilla.Ebonii's mother, Metro Mobility Customer Service Specialist Pamela Hall-Clemens, persuaded Ebonii to apply for a bus operator position to have a stable job with better pay than she had as an office manager. The benefits are good, and you will earn a pension, she said.Ebonii quickly discovered how right her mother was. On her first day of orientation in early 2023, she and her fiancé learned they were expecting. Ebonii became an operator a few months before having to go on parental leave. She returned last December when their son, Tank, was 3 months old."They (Metro Transit) were accommodating throughout my pregnancy, and even after, in allowing me to stay at home with my son for three months and keep my job," Ebonii said. "For that, I greatly appreciate them. I felt very lucky."Today, Ebonii works evenings, operating Route 21 through south Minneapolis where she grew up. The schedule allows her to spend the majority of her day with her child. His father watches him at night while mom drives a bus.Ebonii said her mom, her role model, kept the same job while she was growing up, and she wants to provide the same financial stability for her son. "I won't have to be switching jobs," she said.Inspired to join a family that supports you and yours? Join us! https://lnkd.in/gQSUVTb5

May is National Bike Month, and because we're all about active and sustainable transportation it's no surprise that many of our employees are here for it.Among our most ardent cyclists is operator Christopher Huff-Hanson, who gets around town on two wheels all year round. Inspired by his story? Learn more about how you can combine bicycling and transit here: https://lnkd.in/ggSTWiyBHow do you get to work?Since 1987, I've been biking to work in all seasons and kinds of weather. I remember getting odd looks in winter arriving to work on a bike. Winter biking was an uncommon practice back then and it caused some concern about being on time, but I always planned ahead and made it on time. Today, I give classes for the growing number of people interested in winter biking. Why do you choose to commute that way?I ride for connection to the natural world that only being in the elements provides. I also ride because of the low environmental impact of cycling. I love the adventure of riding in adverse conditions. Even during the three times Metro Transit shut down for weather, you could find me out riding my bike. During the Halloween Blizzard of 1991, a local broadcast station caught me on camera as I biked past two stuck buses at Franklin and Portland. That clip eventually made the national news. What do you enjoy most about your commute?I love the sound of the 4 a.m. birds. And every year there seems to be some new texture of snow that does something I've never seen before. I love all the bunnies out getting rowdy for the full moon. Just like people, the rabbits' behaviors change when the warm weather finally arrives. There's simply so much more to see and experience riding a bike than being in a car.

“I always say I like to be first at something because nobody can take that from you,” says Jeanne O., who last year became the first woman to win our annual Bus Roadeo. After competing against operators from across the country last month, Jeanne will defend her Metro Transit title next week. Thank you to KARE 11 for catching up with Jeanne yesterday during a practice round. Please join us in wishing Jeanne and all the other participating bus operators the best in next week’s competition. https://lnkd.in/gHQYUCK2

As we look to our future, we invite you to join us tonight, and throughout the week, for conversations about Metro Transit Forward. As General Manager Lesley Kandaras writes, “Metro Transit Forward is our effort – and our commitment – to co-create a shared vision, mission and strategic framework that will guide our future work.” Feedback received through these upcoming events – May 6 in St. Paul, May 7 in Minneapolis, and May 9 online – will be used as we put the finishing touches on Metro Transit Forward.
